Lakeside Activities Center

Camp Hough, a 20 acre site on Silver Lake has been operated by the Genesee Area YMCA since 1911. The Director of the YMCA saw the new Lakeside Activities Center as an opportunity to better serve the campers and expand YMCA programming to a wider clientele on a year-round basis.

The new building is 2,400 s.f. on two floors with a 1,400 s.f. deck that looks out over the lake. The ground floor includes a large activities area for campers with overhead doors opening to a lakeside patio covered by the deck above. The second floor Lake Hall is a cathedral-ceilinged multi-use “flex” space which includes an open kitchenette/prep area. The Lake Hall has large windows overlooking the lake and provides access to the deck area.

Inside, there is a stone-clad fireplace with a custom hood that includes a massive beech timber mantle salvaged from the Buffalo Ginger Beer Factory. The ceiling and wainscoting are pine and the floors are hard-wearing bamboo.

The building provides the YMCA with flexible space that can be used throughout the year for everything from camping to corporate retreats and special events.
