smartDESIGN developed a master plan for comprehensive renovations for the Orleans County YMCA in Medina, NY. Housed in an historic armory, the building is a beautiful landmark but was programmatically inflexible. The new plan respected the historic volumes and materials while infusing the energy and contemporary function and atmosphere of a modern YMCA facility. A new entry that delivered visitors to the center of the building helped to create a dynamic hub that connected the various spaces and uses.
